Stocks often react wildly to unpredictable events, such as news, rumors...

Expiration Date - At the end of the expiration date, all those call options whose strike prices are higher than the price of the underlying stock or index will be worthless...

OEX Options (S&P 100 index)

Description: oex index trading, options trading system, qqq, oex, spy, equity, american style

S&P 100 Indexes ("Standard and Poors S&P 100 Stock Index") ticker symbol is OEX. OEX options allow traders to speculate on the movement of the OEX. The OEX consists of 100 blue-chip stocks from diverse industry groups. The blue-chip stocks provide a good measure of the market's over all performance. The OEX is a subset of the S&P 500 index; the OEX is based on 100 of the 500 stocks of the S&P 500. Because OEX issues are not equally weighted, that is why the larger a stock, the greater its influence on the total index.

OEX options (with American-style exercise) have been used by investors since 1983. OEX is one of the most popular equity portfolio management tools in history because more that one billion OEX options have been traded since 1983.
